Summary

Ivory crepe evening dress, made at home in 1936 for a Glenhuntly Primary School Ball, presumably by Violet Morgan. It was made from a block pattern also donated (see SH90.630.3). According to donor the fabric used is satin faccine. A green velvet jacket made at the same time (SH90.655) was worn with the dress.

Physical Description

Evening dress of ivory-coloured, satin-backed crepe with an embossed floral design. The dress has shoulder straps and a V-shaped neck opening formed by an overlapping of the sides of the bodice. The waist is high and formed of asymetrically shaped panels which become the gores of the flared shirt. The back fastens with a series of 11 clear glass buttons with raised daisy pattern and self loops. The waist band at the back crosses over itself and forms two gores in the skirt. The dress is ankle length.
