Summary
Sausage filler brought to Australia from Hungary in the 1950s by Josef and Margaret Simko. It was given to Margaret by her mother, who was worried that they might not have anything to eat in Australia, so little did they know about the country they were going to settle in. However Margaret and Josef rarely used it as they settled in suburban Melbourne and purchased ready manufactured sausage.
These sausage fillers were especially common in the country in Hungary, where the sausages were made in winter when the pigs were slaughtered and the sausages, bloodwurst/black pudding, made and smoked to preserve.
Physical Description
Large metal syringe shaped tool, consisting of a large main tube, smaller nozzle (which can be changed for one of a different width) and a wooden plunger which slides into the main tube.
