Summary
Public address speaker. Used at Newmarket Saleyards.
A horn is used to amplify the relatively small sound output from the driver unit so that it can be easily heard over a wide area in front of the horn. This loudspeaker uses a re-entrant type of folded horn to make it more compact device compared to a straight horn like SH900085
One of a number used throughout Newmarket Saleyards by Melbourne City Council to call people to the nearest phone. Phones were located around the yards. Some Newmarket workers also recall a "runner" who would run out and pass messages on to workers.
Physical Description
Conal-shaped loudspeaker, dull blue colour. "C" shaped attachment for suspension at rear.
