Summary
Badge depicting Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Communist Party of China. Millions of these badges, or similar badges, were produced in the People's Republic of China, mostly between the time of the Cultural Revolution in 1966 until 1971. The badges eventually became collectors' items.
Part of collection of badges collected by Jim Cooper, a veteran member of the Building Workers' Industrial Union (NSW Branch) and Union and political activist before his death in 1984. His daughter passed the badges on to Alf Zeeno, ex-secretary of the BWIU, with a request that they be donated to the museum.
Physical Description
Round badge of gold-coloured metal, with head and shoulders left profile of Mao Zedong on a red background, surrounded by a gold-coloured border, possibly ears of wheat.
