Leather embossing machine and steel patterns used to create patterns or designs on leather at Simpson's Gloves Factory, Richmond, Victoria, Pty Ltd, Richmond.
A heavy metal ring at the top was wound down to press the desired shape into leather. Gas jets provided heat to mould the shape or design. Some patterns were mock leather patterns such as "mock lizard", others were small animal or figure designs.
Simpson's Gloves Pty Ltd was formed in 1924 and produced leather gloves and coats, handbags, helmets and associated leather goods. The company first operated in Smith Street, and subsequently Alexandra Parade, Collingwood, relocating to Victoria Street, Richmond in 1928, where it remained until 1988.
