Commemorative sterling silver trowel presented to H.W.H. Irvine upon laying the foundation stone of the new wine cellars, Great Western, 22nd July 1892.

"The Irvine Wine Collection was acquired by Museum Victoria in 1989. It represents the history of the Great Western Vineyard and the achievements of Hans William Henry Irvine, vigneron and politician, from 1888 until 1922. It comprises 130 items ranging from publications, marketing items, packaging materials, wine labels, award medals, ceramics, illuminated address, commemorative trowel, trophy plaques, wine makers tools, and silverware."

Physical Description

.1 Sterling silver commemorative trowel, the face of which is decorated with engraved patterns. The handle has an ivory handgrip with heavy cast decoration at its base. .2 Case for trowel. The case is elliptical in shape, is made of wood with black leather? cover and is secured with a brass latch. The case is lined with red satin.
