The new monarch, King Charles' coronation was on 6 May 2023. The Royal Australian Mint released 3.5 million $1 coins with the new monarch effigy on 7 Dec 2023.
The obverse of the coin features a new portrait of the King designed by UK Royal Mint illustrator and coin designer Daniel Thorne and the effigy is the official Commonwealth Effigy with Royal Approval.
Part of a set of all 6 denominations currently in use dated 2024 with the coins minted to proof quality.

Head of Charles III, facing left. Around, CHARLES III . AUSTRALIA 2024. Artist's initials DT below neck.
Reverse Description
Arms of the Commonwealth of Australia, based on those authorised by Royal Warrant 19 September 1912 - composed of a shield divided into six parts, each containing a representation of the badge of a State. The shield is supported by a kangaroo and an emu. The shield sits on the denomination numerals, 50; above the shield is the Federation star. The entire design is set above a field of stylized wattle leaves. The artist's initials SD are in the field below the numerals.
