Badge, alternatively known as a button, supporting black Africans' fight for self-rule in British controlled Rhodesia during the period 1965 to 1979.
The Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU) were militant organizations that fought against white minority rule in Rhodesia. Both ZANU and ZAPU contested the 1979 election. ZANU, led by Robert Mugabe, won. Mugabe became Prime Minister of the liberated Zimbabwe in 1980. The two parties merged in 1987 to become ZANU-PF.
Physical Description
Circular badge. It has a laminated front with a tan background. It has a black inscription which follows the badge's circumference. It has a picture of a black man, right side facing, carrying a white and black machine gun over his left shoulder and wearing a green open-necked shirt. It has a silver coloured metal back with a gold coloured wire pin and loop.
