Badge supporting the independence movement for Kanaky. The Kanak, the indigenous people of New Caledonia, have been campaigning for independence from France. The movement became very active from the 1970s.
The symbol on the badge is a flèche faîtière (a spear-like wooden totem monument placed atop traditional dwellings).
Badge used in Australia pre 1986.
The donor of the badge is a writer and researcher on Pacific affairs, and has written about the Kanaky movement (see References).

Round yellow badge with a black symbol ( flèche faîtière) on its centre. Around the perimeter is black text. The badge has a pin on the back.
