Badge depicting Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Communist Party of China. Millions of these badges, or similar badges, were produced in the People's Republic of China, mostly between the time of the Cultural Revolution in 1966 until 1971. The badges eventually became collectors' items.
The donor collected these badges over a fifteen year period during which he undertook much research in the field of Trade Union Material Culture, and had extensive contact with the Trade Union movement Australia wide.
Physical Description
Circular gold button of plastic with metal clip on the back. Gold border, red translucent plastic over incised plastic which gives a radiating effect or aura through the plastic. At centre, profile in gold of Mao Zedong. On the back, pin similar mechanism to a safety pin attached by two raised bars. Chinese characters on the back.
