Badge depicting Mao Zedong, Chairman of the Communist Party of China. Millions of these badges, or similar badges, were produced in the People's Republic of China, mostly between the time of the Cultural Revolution in 1966 until 1971. The badges eventually became collectors' items.
The donor collected these badges over a fifteen year period during which he undertook much research in the field of Trade Union Material Culture, and had extensive contact with the Trade Union movement Australia wide.
Physical Description
Circular gold button of plastic with a metal clip. Gold border with raised flowers in it (30 flowers). At the centre, raised head of Mao Zedong in gold, red plastic detail, star on cap and badges on collar. Beneath this image of sea, waves and spray, sun at the centre all in gold. Area surrounding head red plastic over incised detail giving radiating effect of aura. Safety pin style pin on the back. Chinese characters on the back.
