Summary
Badge, alternatively known as a button, made between 1968 and 1970. Used in Melbourne, Victoria, it was worn by the donor during anti-Vietnam war and anti-conscription rallies. The text, 'Readin' Riotin' and 'Rithmetic', is a play on the traditional epithet on education, 'Reading, Writing and Arithmetic'.This particular badge was produced by Students for a Democratic Society at Monash University. The donor was a student at Monash University between 1968 and 1973, and was involved in student politics, including membership of the radical Students for a Democratic Society. The Students for a Democratic Society organisation began in the United States in 1960; it disbanded in 1969.
