The City Square in Melbourne was a pubilc space on the corner of Swanston and Collilns Streets, opposite MelbourneTown Hall. It opened in 1968 and redesigned in 1976, and further redeveloped in the 1990s. It was closed in 2017 for the construction of the Melbourne Metro Rail Project. The square was used for political protests and demonstrations, especially before the redesign. It is not clear who issued the badge, or for what purpose.
Part of a collection of buttons assembled by the donor while active in left-wing politics at the University of Melbourne, circa 1979-86.
