Band of Hope badge made in England and used in Geelong around 1903.

One of the first responses to the problems of excessive drinking in the 1800's was the formation of temperance societies. The Band of Hope spread throughout the English speaking world and was established in Australia by 1860.

Many Bands' of Hope were associated with Churches and temperance classes were often run in conjunction with Sunday School for children.

Physical Description

Diamond shaped metal lapel pin with metallic silver back and lockable pin. Face contains blue enamel and silver text and image of anchor.
