Mothers Day Band of Hope badge made in England and used in Geelong around 1908.
One of the first responses to the problems of excessive drinking in the 1800's was the formation of temperance societies. The Band of Hope spread throughout the English speaking world and was established in Australia by 1860.
Many Bands' of Hope were associated with Churches and temperance classes were often run in conjunction with Sunday School for children.
Physical Description
Round metallic button/badge with metallic silver back and lock able pin. Plastic face has white background, with star shape and blue lines shining out from star. Inside star is blue text.
