It features a coloured painting of Phar Lap, reproduced from the original painted by R. Code and owned by Harry Telford, trainer of Phar Lap. The poster also features a brief summary of the horse's racing career.

Physical Description

Rectangular advertising print on thick white card. Contains a reproduction of a painting of Phar Lap, showing him being ridden by a jockey, who is dressed in a red cap and jacket, a white top with black stripes on the sleeves and white trousers. The picture has a large white border around it, on which is printed the name of the company being advertised. Below the picture is printed the name `Phar Lap' and some statistics about his life and racing career.

This object is significant as it evidences the early use of the Phar Lap name and image for commercial purposes. The fact that the advertiser, Penfolds Wines, has become a hugely successful winery adds to the object's allure.
