Summary
Last Elizabeth II two dollar coin (2023) & first Charles III two dollar coin (2024), both uncirculated, in Commemorative Card, made by Max Stern & Co. Limited edition: 248 of 250 cards.
Uncirculated 2 dollar coins in commemorative card produced by Max Stern & Co. Melbourne featuring the portraits of Queen Elizabeth II and King Charles III facing each other, commemorating the transition of power from one monarch to another. The reverse features a bearded Indigenous Elder under the Southern Cross, designed by Horst Hahne. The obverse of the second coin features a new portrait of the King designed by UK Royal Mint illustrator and coin designer Daniel Thorne and the effigy is the official Commonwealth Effigy with Royal Approval.
Queen Elizabeth II died on 8 September 2022, and the new monarch, King Charles' coronation was on 6 May 2023. For 70 years, since 1953, Australian coins had a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
The King appears on the coin without a crown, a personal choice that follows other monarchs. As is tradition, he faces in the opposite direction (to the left) from his predecessor and mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
The new monarch, King Charles' coronation was on 6 May 2023. The Royal Australian Mint released the two dollar coins with the new monarch effigy on 21 February 2024. The last coin featuring the effigy of the Queen was minted at the Royal Australian Mint on 2 January 2024.
This commemorative card is one of several released since 2023 by Max Stern & Co., a prominent and well respected Melbourne based vendor of coins & stamps since 1950. Max Stern partnered with CertiEye for authentication using as QR code on the card.
