Summary

Snake catching stick, used by Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL) Ltd., Parkville, Victoria, circa 1920s. Snake catching sticks were used by CSL for safely gripping a snake at the back of head to catch it for milking venom. This venom was then used in the production of antivenoms.

Physical Description

Wooden rod with wooden handle jutting at right angles, and metal trigger. metal rod spring tensioned running along handle. Handle end has trigger release mechanism. Catching end has jaws made of looped metal which snap shut.
