Model History:
1:32 scale model of a Me 262 was commissioned by the Museum and built by Mr R.D. Ramsay in 1965. It is painted to represent 'V167' the V5 pre-production aircraft.
Nicknamed the Schwalbe (German for "Swallow") in its fighter versions, or Sturmvogel (German for "Storm Bird") as a fighter-bomber, the Messerschmitt Me 262 was the first jet-powered aircraft to see operational deployment during World War II, and one of only two jet fighter aircraft types egaged in any air-to-air combat before the end of the war. It was designed and produced by the famous German aircraft manufacturer Messerschmitt AG.
Physical Description
Metal model aeroplane painted dark green across the wings with camoflage style green paint along the body and a pale green underside. There is a small black swastika on the tail.
