Naval shirt worn by Leading Stoker H. L. Simons of H.M.A.S. Perth while in Japanese Prisoner of War (POW) camp, during World War II.
Physical Description
Faded navy cotton shirt, heavily stained and torn. Long sleeves with single button cuff, front placket with three buttonholes, one button. Patch pocket on left hand side with white painted logo. Large and smaller tears below left pocket, right side had large semi-circular section missing. Smaller tears and holes on upper right side. Extensive fading and staining over entire garment. One piece collar with front buttonhole, button missing. Upper back has been lined and outer fabric has been hand sewn to lining as attempted repair. Large tear across centre back. Right hand upper sleeve has white fabric badge hand sewn on. Badge as blue propeller and star.
