Summary
IBM Model 5100 desk top computer circa 1977, with cartridge storage and inbuilt 12 cm diagonal visual display unit (VDU), integral keyboard, with numeric keypad. Made by IBM in the United States of America 1975-1980.
Acquired from the Economics & Commerce Department, La Trobe University, in 1990.
Physical Description
Beige plastic unit with QWERTY keyboard at the front and 5 inch screen to the left and 5 1/2 inch floppy disk drive to the right. The front panel has a switch for changing languages from BASIC to APL. It has a long grey power cord attached.
Significance
This machine is an example of an intermediate stage from floor mounted computers with work stations (minicomputers) to microcomputers with the standard configuration - box, screen, keyboard and, later, mouse.
