Electric Frigidaire refrigerator, made by General Motors in the USA circa 1933.
The 1930s represents an early period in the evolution of the domestic refrigerator when fridges were designed to blend in with the general furniture in the house. Hence this fridge took the form of a cabinet. The design of its doors, legs and hinges are reminiscent of those that could be found on a typical kitchen or dining cabinet of the time.
Physical Description
Standard, electric, white metal refrigerator. Upright rectangular form with stepped rounded edged top and four legs. FRONT: 2/3 height door above a removable panel. Upper centre, control panel and logo. DOOR: hinged at right. HANDLE - horizontal lever (broken). BACK: Centre of panel unpainted. Exposed compression unit at base, covered with non-factory chicken wire. Electrical cord under unit. TOP: paint rubbed off in vertical section front to back. INTERIOR: white enamel. 1 removable wire shelf. 1 green enamel rectangular dish. 1 metal plate. 2 rusty screws. FREEZER COMPARTMENT - open, hangs from ceiling. 2 compartments, 1 fixed shelf. 2 ice trays. 2 ice moulds, 1 rubber, 1 metal. DOOR - white enamel, black rubber seal. No fixtures.
