Significance

The Russian "loss was estimated at from 12 to 13,000 men, and from 8 to 9000 horses were counted on the field of battle; 60 pieces of cannon, and 5000 prisoners were taken by the French, whose loss was estimated at 10,000 men in killed, wounded, and taken prisoners. Such is a slight sketch of the battle of Moskwa, fought a few leagues in the rear of Mojaisk, and twenty-five leagues from Moscow, near the little river Moskwa. Sixty thousand cannon shot, it is said, were fired by the French in this battle." Laskey, p. 203 the end of a three page description of the battle
