Silver medal featuring a shield and inscription, commissioned by Trinity College, University of Melbourne, Dialectic Society President's as a prize for oratory. Awarded to T. B. Weigall in 1885.
Theyre à Beckett Weigall was a promising law 25-year-old student who had been awarded LL.B. in 1880; he was awarded LL.M. the year after he received this medal. In 1890 he married Anne Sophie Hamilton, daughter of the governor of Tasmania. One of their three daughters was (Lady) Joan Lindsay, author of the Australian classic Picnic at Hanging Rock. Weigall was appointed a King's Counsel in 1906, at the age of 46, and practiced widely in the High Court of Australia.
Physical Description
A silver prize medal (47 mm diameter) featuring the school shield. Obverse features the Trinity College shield; reverse is a combination of inscribed and cast texts.
