Membership medal issued in 1919 by the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society. The Society was a church-based support network founded in 1868 by a group of Irish immigrants including Mark Young. Its work included support of St Patrick's Day parades.
Physical Description
Round medal with 3mm wide border around edge, framing a sunken medal face depicting a raised harp, cross and coat of arms with kangaroo and emu etched into face behind coat of arms, tree behind harp and sunrays behind cross. Motifs sit above etched banner with inscription. Medal has suspension loop attached at top.
Obverse Description
Harp, cross and shield surrounded by text with suspension loop at top.
Reverse Description
Engraved text within plain border and suspension loop at top.
Edge Description
Plain edge.
