Summary

Copper One Penny Token, minted by Thomas Stokes, Melbourne. Issued by J.W. Buxton, Stationery Stores, Brisbane, circa 1862. J.W. Buxton appears to have run one of the largest stationery businesses in Brisbane during the 1860s. His wife, Mrs. Buxton, ran a well publicised Ladies Drapery warehouse.

Physical Description

A round copper token (34 mm diameter). The token features the name address and business of the issuer: J.W. Buxton, Ladies Warehouse Brisbane, Stationery Stores. This token shows a die-crack through the A of LADIES on the reverse. It has been cleaned and has re-toned.
