Significance
Silver and copper coins based on the pagoda standard were struck from 1807. In mid 1808 some design changes were made to the silver denominations to bring them in line with the coins struck in gold (no change was made to the weight or fineness of the metal). In 1818 the rupee was introduced as the standard and the pagoda coins replaced in circulation.
