Significance

On 2 February 1808 a proclamation announced the the dumpy form star pagoda was to be replaced by new one and two pagoda pieces struck with flat surfaces like the silver coins introduced in 1807. The new designs were introduced from April 1808 with production continuing until 1816. 1,381,809 of the 1 pagoda denomination were struck during that period.
