Summary
As issued by the Emperor Nero probably in 66 AD, Ancient Roman Empire. Minted by Lugdunum. Nero activated the mint at Lugdunum in Gaul for the production of aes denomintations in about 64 AD. Dies for coin production were made locally, not made at the Rome mint and transported to Gaul, and are identified by the addition of a globe at the point of the neck truncation. Coins from Lugdunum were issued in the Western provinces and circulated primarily, but not exclusively, there. Mac Dowall records for instance that at Pompeii six As with globe were reported in two reports as found compared with 224 without the globe and therefore from the Rome mint.The Ara Pacis type was only struck at Lugdunum.
