Summary
Needle sharpener, used for sharpening hyperdermic needles prior to introduction and use of disposable variety. A weight is attached to the needle and the needle is rubbed back and forth across a rounded sharpening stone. Used by Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL) Limited, Parkville, Victoria.
Physical Description
Oblong wooden base. At one end, a metal cylinder supports a weighted, levered arm into which a needle can be inserted and secured. Across the central section a cylindrical sharpening stone rests. The needle rests against the stone with the aid of the weight. Various parts of the apparatus can be adjusted using a system of wheels, screws and bolts.
