Summary
Sintered glass filter candle - ultrafine porosity. Capable of filtering bacteria from fluids. Coarser grades are available - fine and ultrafine sintered glass could also be coated with collodion for ultrafiltration, as is seen with unglazed porcelain candles. Used by Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL) Limited, Parkville, Victoria. About 1950s.
Physical Description
Tube-shaped glass jacket with protrusion at one end and silver attachment at other. Attachment has 3 wingnuts holding 2 plates together with white rubber tubes protruding from black stopper inserted into glass cavity. Another glass tube with a white coating top to bottom sits inside.
