Microscope slide storage box, circa 1930, in the form of a false book. This book form of storage was common at the time. The slides are botanical allergens used by Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (CSL) Limited, Parkville, Victoria.

Physical Description

Box has the appearance of a black cloth-bound book with marbled page-edges. Box opens to reveal wooden compartments for microscope slides (capacity 100), containing 106 slides. The slides are botanical allergens and are individually labelled. The box lid has a chart for recording the contents of up to 102 slides. Originally inserted into the box was a typed, foolscap sheet naming all the specimens.
