Removed from a former workers' toilet in the courtyard of the Phoenix Clothing Factory at 347a King Street, Melbourne, when the building was being refurbished in 1997.
Cistern from a toilet that is the original type approved for use by the Melbourne & Metropolitan Board of Works during the 1890s and is believed to have been installed at the phoenix clothing factory site in about 1899 when the Melbourne central business district was first sewered.
Physical Description
Cistern belonging to ceramic bowl flush toilet. Elevated wall-mounted cast-iron cistern. Lever and chain operated. Two-gallon capacity. Also rusted iron frame which originally supported a timber seat.
