Badge promoting Bob Hawke in an election campaign, probably 1987. Hawke was elected President of the ACTU in 1969, After a decade as ACTU President, Hawke announced his intention to enter politics, and was immediately elected to the House of Representatives as the Labor MP for Wills.
In 1983 he led Labor to a landslide election victory . He was Australia's 23rd Prime Minister, and served from 1983 to 1991. Under Hawke, the Australian Labor Party had election victories in 1984, 1987 and 1990.
Part of collection of badges collected by Jim Cooper, a veteran member of the Building Workers' Industrial Union (NSW Branch) and Union and political activist before his death in 1984. His daughter passed the badges on to Alf Zeeno, ex-secretary of the BWIU, with a request that they be donated to the museum.
