Summary
Rectangular shaped trunk made from wood and lined on the exterior with metal sheeting. The trunk was brought to Australia by Nick Karathanasopoulos, when he returned to Australia with his wife and daughter. Nick had first migrated to Australia in the early 1920s. Nick and his family travelled on the 'Strathmore' and were the only non-service people on board. During the journey they were detained in Port Said due to the war for four months, hence the transit reference on the trunk. The reference to Pavilion L'Esplanade on the lid of the trunk suggests that Nick was addressing his luggage to his brother George, who was living in St Kilda at that time. It is likely that Nick and his family stayed with George when they first arrived.
