Summary
Denarius issued by Octavian who, in 27 BC, became Augustus the first Roman Emperor. Minted by an Uncertain mint in Italy, probably at Brindisium near Octavian's naval headquarters. This issue was once thought to have been from an Eastern mint. This coin formed part of a war coinage for troop payments around the time of the Battle of Actium.

Bust of Venus facing right wearing a stephane and neckless (no legend)
Reverse Description
Octavian in military dress advancing to left with his cloak flying behind, he extends his right hand and holds a transverse spear in his left; in field (divided by figure) CAESAR DIVI F (translation: son of the divine Caesar)
