Summary
This silver prize medal was awarded at the Victorian Industrial Exhibition of 1856 to John Jones for 'the best case of artificial limbs'. A previous Victorian Industrial Exhibition had been held in Geelong 29 - 30 January 1851. Livestock, agriculture and wines were exhibited and prizes were awarded. The Victoria Industrial Society exhibitions were well-received and became an annual event. The 1856 exhibition boasted displays of manufactures, produce, machinery and fine arts. It was opened by His Excellency, Sir Henry Barkly on 11 February.

On central medallion within wide looped wreath symbols of Agriculture including sheep, wheat, bee hive, grapes and plough in exergue, H.DE.G. (?). The reverse engraved AWARDED / TO / Mr. John Jones / for the best Case of / ARTIFICIAL / LIMBS / November / 1856; around, VICTORIA INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY.
