Other Details: Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee in 1897 was celebrated the great enthusiasm throughout the British Empire. It prompted many Australian local governments to issue commemorative medals. The Shire of Donald, which issued this medal, was located in the Wimmera region of north-western Victoria by the Richardson River, 10km south of Lake Buloke. First settled in 1844, Donald developed as a service centre to the surrounding district where wheat, barley, fat lambs and wool were the main produce. The Shire was declared on 11 February 1897, the same year it issued this medal.

Reverse Description
At centre within wide rim Arms of Shire below Royal Arms; motto on ribbon below, UNITA FORTIOR around on broad rim, SHIRE OF DONALD + H. GOLDSMITH, PRESIDENT +
