Summary

Macleay River Agricultural Association silver first prize medal awarded around 1880 to W. Kerrigan for a Rat Terrier dog named "Nap". Agricultural associations such as this provided important support to local farmers by encouraging the improvement of skills and adoption of new practices and equipment through regular shows and competitions. The Macleay River district is located 428km north of Sydney. Agricultural activities since settlement have included beef, dairying, timber, maize, potatoes, bananas, fishing, prawning, oysters, deer and avocadoes.
