During the 1950s, students at Emily McPherson College intermittently mounted displays and welcomed visitors. On 16 August 1951, The Age reported that 'Future housewives, manne quins, dietitians, scientists, nurses and cooks - all students at Emily McPherson College - have combined to put on an Education week display... Highlight of yesterday's display was a mannequin parade when the college took on the glamor of a fashion salon. Students, all aged under 20, paraded with poise, in beautifully modelled frocks, coats, suits and hats they had designed and made themselves. Visitors enviously eyed a variety of work, not only in the dress making and millinery salons and the cutting and designing room, but in the cookery department, where applied art was seen at some of its best.'
