Victorian Railways No.1 Chelmsford steam bus parked in front of a post and rail fence on the side of an unsealed forest range. A group of three men and three women on an excursion pose in front of the bus. The body of the steam bus was built by the Newport Railway Workshop. Six of these vehicles were ordered but they served for only a short period after proving unreliable in service. They were used primarily as feeder services to railway stations on the St Kilda-Brighton route.
