Summary

This image is probably based on the fires that occurred on 19 February in the Dandenong Ranges, which burnt 1,920 hectares and destroyed 53 houses and more than 10 other buildings. The areas affected included The Basin and Upwey.

Part of a collection of approximately 85,000 photographic negatives taken by photographer Laurie Richards. Laurie Richards was a commercial photographer who worked in Melbourne from the 1950s to the early 1980s. He also employed a team of photographers at his studio. He did a lot of work for large companies such as Swallow & Ariel, Vacuum Oil (Mobil), APM, Coca-Cola and many of the media companies.

Description of Content

"Bushfire Damage" - a house built on the side of a hill that has survived a bushfire. One wall is charred and it is surrounded by debris and the remains of another building.
