Summary

Doll dressed in traditional costume from the Nica Region of Latvia, made by Anita Apinis-Herman, circa 1980. Anita is second generation Latvian weaver, she was taught by her mother Anna Apinis then undertook further training at the Melbourne College of Textiles. The doll is dressed in the traditional garb of the Nica region from the West coast of Latvia. Mrs Logins in Perth, did the embroidery for the costume. Physical Description

The doll is a commercially produced doll which has been dressed in a handwoven and embroidered Latvian costume. The doll has eyes which open and shut, yellow plastic hair and plastic limbs. The skirt has been hand- woven and is very full and gathered at the waist. The skirt is in red wool and has patterns of blue, yellow, black and green. The doll also wears a finely embroidered white shirt and waistcoat patterned in black. A beaded crown completes the national costume.
