Summary
This fossil preserves two thirds of the upper bill of a large, extinct albatross that inhabited southern latitudes in the late Miocene. It was found at Beaumaris, Victoria, in the early 20th Century and designated the holotype specimen of the species Diomedea thyridata. This unique specimen is the most ancient and only known albatross fossil found in Australia.
