Summary

These specimens were collected from Freycinet Marine Park (formerly Commonwealth Marine Reserve) off Tasmania during the 'Sampling the Abyss' expedition. Sea cucumbers are a major component of deep-sea fauna, and these specimens came from the seafloor at ~2800 metres. They have long dorsal papillae, tube feet used to move slowly across the surface mud, and a circle of feeding tentacles. Many species of sea cucumbers can also be found in shallow waters in Victoria.
