Summary
This specimen with the common name 'Monkey Brittle Star' was collected on the 2017 'Sampling the Abyss' voyage. While this specimen was collected from over 4000 metres in the Flinders Commonwealth Marine Reserve off North-Eastern Tasmania, the species is actually found across the globe from Siberia in the north to Antarctica in the south. The beautiful curled arms, reminiscent of the 'Barrel of Monkeys' childrens game from the 1960s, give it its common name.
