Summary
This sketch book documents early concepts for the River Show, a display mounted on the Yarra River during the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. It featured in the Opening Ceremony of the Games, with the Queen's Baton being carried down a 'spine' of floats from the Princes Bridge to the Swan Street Bridge.
The sketches in this copy of Ian Bracegirdle's sketchbook show that the concept of a 'spine' down which the baton would be carried predates the final concept of having Fish sculptures and flags as the form for the River Show. Bracegirdle's sketches at this point featured leaf-shaped barges with runners moving across them.
