Steve Costello is the operator at right in the pH/pAg Measuring Laboratory in the Emulsion Department. He is calibrating the pH/pAg meter. Note the red light safelight torch attached to the meter.This laboratory measures the acidity and silver concentration of emulsions. The Laboratory moved to the Coburg premises in 1960. This department tested products during the manufacturing process. Steve Costello continued work at Kodak's Coburg plant.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.

Description of Content

The photograph shows two men wearing white overalls, both facing in opposite directions from each other. The man on the left is situated in the background of the image and is holding a beaker of white fluid and is looking down at a bench work area. The man to the right in the foreground of the image is operating a piece of equipment. There are cables strung up on the walls and on the workbench.
