Steve Costello is the operator in the pH/pAg Measuring Laboratory in the Emulsion Department. In this photograph he is calibrating the pH/pAg meter. Attached to the meter is a red light safelight torch.The pH/pAG Measuring Laboratory measures the acidity and silver concentration of emulsions. The laboratory moved to the Coburg premises in 1960 and Steve Costello continued to work at Kodak's Coburg plant.

Kodak manufactured and distributed a wide range of photographic products to Australasia, such as film, paper, chemicals, cameras and miscellaneous equipment. Its client base included amateur and professional photographers, as well as specialist medical and graphic art professionals who used photography, x-ray and other imaging techniques.

This photograph is part of the Kodak collection of products, promotional materials, photographs and working life artefacts collected from Kodak Australasia in 2005, when the Melbourne manufacturing plant at Coburg closed down.

Description of Content

The main focus of the photograph is a man operating a piece of equipment that features a torch attached to a metal box with dials on the top. The man is wearing white overalls with a tag above the pocket, "E.44". There are wires coming out of the equipment leading out of the image frame.
