Summary
Slide showing a close up of traditional Latvian backstrap weaving as demonstrated by Anita Apinis-Herman. Anita is second generation Latvian weaver, she was taught by her mother Anna and then undertook further training at the Melbourne College of Textiles. In backstrap weaving the loom is attached around the weavers back or hips with a backstrap and the other end is attached to a stationary object or tensioned with the feet. This type of weaving gives the weaver perfect control over the warp tension of the weaving.
